Why? Hmmmm... well there is no really good particular reason for me (Joe) to be going other than Greg asked me to go. Greg says we're going because we turn 30 in September and why not celebrate with something a little unusual. Hopefully we will have some fun mountain biking, hiking, and repairing the Winnebaigis!

Addendum Sept 6,1999

In the beginning the trip was an adventure and challenge in conquering a 10,000 mile journey to Alaska. The Destination of Alaska because its distance, natural beauty and rugged terrain presented a challenge and a reward. The challenge was to get a 1984 Winnebago to Alaska, a machine most would think unsuitable for such a journey. The reward was the achievement that we could do what most people wouldn't try and the splendid beauty of Alaska.

The journey home presents a new challenge to me, a search for inner strength and peace as to why my dear friend Natasha will no longer be following the journey as many of you still are. My journey homeward has begun with much anguish and distress, only time can help me understand the tragic car accident that took her life. A quote from her sister put it so eloquently "A beautiful light went out on earth but a new star burns brightly in Heaven". I know some day I might be able to appreciate Valdez and the Prince William Sound, for now it is with great numbness that I observe the surroundings.

Who? Joseph Baigis & Greg Grieff

How? Hopefully via a 1984, 22 foot Chieftain Winnebago, nicknamed the Winnebaigis by the folks at LM. (the bullet points are for Patrick, he likes bullets!)

Acknowledgements:

A special thanks to our parents for allowing us to spill all kinds of fluids from the Winnebaigis in their driveways and for dealing with the mess left behind long after we took the Winnebaigis home.

Many thanks to our respective employers for authorizing the leave for such a frivolous adventure.

A special thanks to Karen for hosting the pig roast.

A special thanks to Natasha for the digital camera with zoom/macro that so vividly captured the melted aluminum collector gasket.

I have to mention a special thanks to Boog for the use of his backpack... have no fear, if a bear is chasing me it will be the first thing I leave behind!!!

Thanks to James Pierce for helping me acquire the domain name and web host for this site.

Thanks to all the mechanically inclined relatives whom helped us diagnose many mechanical failures or provided suggestions on what items to replace before we began this trip.

Thanks to those people whom helped us pack and prepare for the trip.

Thanks to Lisa and Paul for loaning us a 12 inch TV that can be powered from a cigarette lighter.

Thanks to Queenstown RV - the place where we found the Winnebaigis. They were very helpful with the problems we incurred while under warranty.
