Here is a list of all the items pre-leaving for Alaska that have been repaired on the RV. I'm hoping not to edit the page to add a during the trip section... so much for that!!

Tune up items - spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, PVC valve, 2 fuel filters..
Valve cover gaskets - there were light leaks.
De-gunked the engine - what a mess that made on the parking lot.
Clean battery compartment - the parking lot is still stained with the rust from the cleaning.
New front brakes - the hills in Alaska might be big!!!
Replaced all the belts - fear of dry rotted rubber...
Replaced some vacuum lines that were bad
Radiator - the original pissed on Greg's parents driveway
Radiator hoses - why not we had the radiator out
Heater hoses - these pissed on Joe's parents driveway
Center support bushing - the old one was dry rotted and falling apart
Rebuilt the carburetor on the Onan generator
New stereo that works - had a wiring mess to figure out (funny story)
Replace Collector gasket on the right side twice - second one is supposedly the Lifetime collector gasket , Perhaps the last collector gasket you'll ever have to buy... LOL
A disaster fixing the exhaust leak on the left side - stripped a stud that resulted in the removal of the exhaust manifold for repair.
Secured heat shield to protect the propane tank from the exhaust heat, trying to avoid that rocket red glare effect (boom).
Four new tires on the rear - we messed up should have bought six radials with better snow tread.
Repaired heater control - we think - its to hot to tell if it really works!!!
Repaired various self induced fuse problems - be careful when working with unfamiliar wiring.
Repaired the leaky black water tank - ewwwwwwwwwww (yes the Winnebaigis literally pissed on Joe's parents driveway)
Added 3 feet to the frame for the motorcycle platform.
Tore the bathroom apart looking for a water leak that turned out to be a roof vent!!! argh what a waste of time!!!
Installed a CB - hopefully we won't need to make any distress calls.
Transmission problems - funny trip through Baltimore.

On the road repairs:

August 19, 1999 - The breakdown along the Denali Highway -We pulled over to take some video of ducks feeding in a pond and the Winnebaigis wouldn't restart!

August 18, 1999 - Leaky tire - The outer left rear tire took on a screw and had a slow leak.  We drove to a Chevron Station in Glennallen for the repair.

August 17, 1999 - Replaced another alternator belt - We suspect that the alternator belt broke because it was the original one from when we purchased the RV. We have a nice new belt installed and tensioned properly, so let's see how long it lasts.

August 16, 1999 - Repair the leaky roof above Greg's bed - This was a relatively quick repair once we found the source of the leak. Scrape out old silicone and squirt in some new stuff!!! I'm beginning to realize why you don't see a lot of older RV's on the road, too many repairs!!!

August 14, 1999 - Replace alternator belt - About 200 miles into the journey to Dawson City we heard a noise, smelt burnt rubber and the alternator wasn't charging. One might suspect that the belt was misaligned on the lower pulley that if fell off and wrapped itself around the fan.

August 13, 1999 - Winnebaigis gets its alternator rebuilt

The voltage problem persisted over the past few days, so we decided to take some early corrective action before we got stranded.

August 11, 1999 - Sparking problem

During the ride today I noticed the voltage from the alternator was reading low and Greg was complained there was a miss in the engine. During one of our picture taking stops Greg noticed an arc from the spark plug to the engine block... the spark plug seemed to be arcing through the rubber boot to the block!!! Oops sounds like our new lifetime guaranteed spark plug wires are bad!!!

August 9, 1999 - Roof AC cover repair

The high winds from August 8th caused some damage to the Winnebaigis... that evening we tried to use the AC only to hear a horrible sound. The morning or August 9th I wend up on the roof to look at the unit, in disbelief I saw the anchor points of the cover all cracked up. A little duct tape and strap iron were used to fabricate a "patch" to hold the roof AC cover down until we get home or get a new one.

August 7, 1999 - We not longer need a sump pump in the Winnebaigis.

After several attempts to repair the leak, at times we made the leak worse than the original leak, we now have it fixed. One would think it wouldn't take 2 engineers nearly a week to fix a dripping water heater, however this is an RV, everything is over-complicated.

August 4, 1999 - The Winnebaigis got a lift

The age and excess weight began taking the toll on the Winnebaigis, it was slowly losing ride height. We decided an extra leaf might help the performance over bumps and give the Winnebaigis some extra ground clearance. The morning was spent at Sioux Brake getting the the springs tended too.

August 1, 1999 at 11am

The "last collector gasket you will need" melted 13 miles into the journey. (yes we got outside the DC beltway, but that's because I live outside the beltway!!!) Notice the bright white on the upper center portion of the picture, that is melted aluminum from the "last collector gasket you will ever need!!!"
